As for how to carry them.  Sword and mace on one side, axe on the other.  Don't assume too much about encumbrance just because the rest of the party (except for Crespin and Mort) are a bunch of sissies 

And if that doesn't work, I can do what I did in the past and have the axe on his backpack.  It would be sword on one side, mace on the other.  It really doesn't matter which side is which as he is ambidextrous.

Hmm, that is, not encumbered with his usual "combat gear".  Adding in the backpack would make him encumbered.
